About Hope's Closet

Who are we?

Hope’s Closet is a non-profit based out of Louisville, KY and was founded by former foster parent, Angela Bischoff, in 2014 after she saw a need to help foster children with basic essentials (clothing, toiletries, school supplies, baby items, etc.). In 2017, as Hope’s Closet was looking to expand, foster parent Jen Mortenson was added as a co-founder.

What is your non-profit status?

We're a 501(c)(3).

Who does Hope’s Closet serve?

Our FREE clothing closet currently serves foster children in KY, children adopted from foster care, kinship placements (relative and fictive), former foster youth, families DCBS has labeled “at-risk”, and privately adopted children. Proof is required to shop and must have caregiver and child’s name listed (foster parent form 111A, subsidy reimbursement, court custody papers, adoption decree, etc.).

Donations

I have old clothes I can give, and I am excited to help out. Why can't you accept my donations right now?

We're so grateful for the support we've received from the community in the last few months in the form of donations, time, and money. Unfortunately, we've entirely run out of space. In addition to the store, we're storing items in multiple storage facilities. We appreciate your desire to give but just don't have anywhere to put any more donations. To see the most current list of items we are in need of, please click here.

Please hold on to your items, or give them to other local non-profit organizations.

When we are accepting clothes again, we will post the sizes needed on our Facebook page: Hope’s Closet Kentucky.

******WE CAN ALWAYS ACCEPT NEW CLOTHING ITEMS WITH TAGS******

If you'd like to help in other ways, you can donate money to hopesclosetky@gmail.com via PayPal to help us pay for the day-to-day expenses of keeping the closet open for the community, or you can sign up to volunteer and help us sort and hang.

What do you mean by "gently used?"

Please, only donate items that are new, unused, or “gently used,” which means items that are in good condition, clean, and presentable.  Please, do not donate items in disrepair that don't work properly, are missing parts, or are ripped, torn, or stained.

Volunteering
